Photograph an object. Open your favorite image editing program. Clone the image. Flip the clone horizontally. Put the clone next to the original. Clone the new image. Flip the clone vertically. Put that clone underneath the first two clones. Crop. Save.

Neat effect, could be used to create your own custom wallpapering.

How to do it from the command line with ImageMagick:
% convert original.jpg -flop original-flipped.jpg
% montage -geometry +0+0 -tile 2x original.jpg original-flipped.jpg original-and-flipped.jpg
% convert original-and-flipped.jpg -flip original-and-flipped-flipped-again.jpg
% montage -geometry +0+0 -tile 1x original-and-flipped.jpg original-and-flipped-flipped-again.jpg final.jpg
